  The Early Childhood Professional Development Collaborative  

Directors Lending Library of Staff Development Materials

The concept for the Early Childhood Professional Development (ECPD) Collaborative was developed through the combined efforts of Kim Karkos, Oxnard College Child Development Center Director (mini-grant proposal author), and the Professional Development & Community Outreach Committee of the Child Care Planning Council of Ventura County (CCPC). The committee served as the advisory body for this 2005-2006 fiscal year mini-grant project, and provided technical assistance as needed.  Support for the ECPD Collaborative was provided by Family and Consumer Sciences Collaborative Grant 05-0160 Perkins VTEA funds from the California Community College Chancellor's Office.
 
 
 



PROJECT OVERVIEW: Representatives from a variety of childcare businesses and organizations in Ventura County in collaboration with Oxnard College worked towards the goal of increasing and improving staff development opportunities for childcare professionals, by creating a user-friendly system for early childhood center Directors to obtain effective materials for on-going staff training.

The objectives of the Early Childhood Professional Development Collaborative are two-fold:

1 To establish a centrally located lending library for Directors, which will include a variety of available training materials that have been screened, reviewed and rated by local early childhood education (ECE) professionals or experts in their field: and

2. To establish a user-friendly on-line directory of locally available audio-visual resources that ECE Directors can consider utilizing for on-going staff training and development.

In February 2006, a child development center directors’ lending library was established at Child Development Resources, Inc. in Oxnard. Collaborative partners, community colleges, child development programs, as well as other groups and organizations are invited to make donations of staff development training/resource materials.  The Collaborative is currently recruiting training/resource material reviewers with a minimum of a Master Teacher level Child Development Permit, or who have been identified by the Collaborative as being an expert in their field.
